0 30

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) is supporting farmers nationwide to address rising fertilizer and pesticide costs through practical and cost-effective solutions for the upcoming cropping season starting in May 2026.

A total of 1,600 Commune Agriculture Officers (CAOs) is being mobilized to intensify extension services and work closely with farmers across the country to implement the following practices:

  1. Increase the use of organic fertilizers to improve soil health and enhance nutrient efficiency
  2. Improve nitrogen use efficiency through split applications and/or integration with biochar
  3. Apply liquid fertilizers (foliar feeding) during key crop growth stages
  4. Promote wood vinegar and botanical pesticides for safer and more sustainable pest management
  5. Cultivate green manure crops to restore and enhance soil fertility
  6. Adopt good agricultural practices under the System of Crop Intensification (SCI), including proper land leveling, use of quality seeds, optimal plant spacing, and improved water management

These measures aim to help farmers maintain or increase yields, reduce production costs, and improve net income, while promoting sustainable agriculture and strengthening national food security.
