Farmers in Trapeang Sdau Commune, Svay Rieng Province, were hit hard by a severe whitefly outbreak. Local CAO Sorn Sary quickly mobilized support by contacting the Ministry of Agriculture, which dispatched a drone-spraying team within three days. This precise and safe intervention impressed the farmers and gained their trust. Sary continued to guide farmers afterward, ensuring they could replicate effective mixtures safely, and the outbreak was brought under control.
When a rice leafroller infestation struck months later, Sary again coordinated a rapid response by involving the Provincial Agronomist, preventing significant losses. Farmers like Tep Oan, who once feared devastating crop failure, saw only slight yield reductions thanks to these timely actions. Meanwhile, neighbouring communes without a CAO suffered catastrophic losses of up to 90%. The experience highlights the vital role of local CAOs, demonstrating how swift coordination safeguards livelihoods.
